With springtime comes an abundance of seasonal produce like strawberries, blueberries, squash, eggplant, mango, field peas, lettuce, onions, and more. Springtime also brings many of us the image of wearing a bathing suit in public and that sends us racing for healthy foods to add to our daily diet. King’s Kountry produce has delightful snacks like strawberries, apples, and carrots. For the ultimate dinner salad, Bacon’s Select Produce has salad mix, kale, and European seedless cucumbers. Boatright Farms specializes in squash and zucchini and when dipped in a low calorie dressing these make a fresh appetizer. To get the biggest bang from your greens, check out Gypsy Microgreens. Natalie attends twice a month with early radish, mustard, pea, basil, wheat grass and many others. These young vegetables pack as much of a nutrient-rich punch as their mature counterparts, maybe more!
Another favorite staple at the farmers market is our fresh bread vendors. We have Great Harvest Bread Company with their loaves, rolls, and cinnamon buns. Ferra’s Bakery brings the wonderfully ethnic varieties of baklava, bread sticks, rolls, and bagels. Looking for vegan or gluten-free? Check out Vegan Amelia and their amazing desserts and their popular carrot cake, and Something Good’s variety of gluten-free cookies and sweet breads. We even have baked goodies for your best friend at Bark-N-Bake like calming lavender treats, jerky, and chicken feet.
Booth With a Cause
This week’s Booth With a Cause will be Safe Kids Northeast Florida led by THE PLAYERS Center for Child Health at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Their focus is reaching beyond the walls of the hospital to promote safe and healthy childhoods for all kids. Safe Kids Northeast Florida will be on-site providing education to families in our community to help reduce the risk of preventable injuries.
