Vietnamese Egg Rolls, Eastern European Pastries, and Brazilian Treats are just some of the ethnic flavors you can savor at the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmer’s market in historic, downtown Fernandina Beach.
Rose Didion, from An Un-Believable Egg Rolls, has been offering handmade, authentic Vietnamese egg rolls since 2000. As a child, Rose helped her
grandmother make and sell egg rolls to neighbors and friends for extra money. Her grandmother’s recipe was something made up as she went along, adding spices and seasonings when needed. Rose watched closely and learned her trade, knowing every ingredient that went into her famous egg rolls.
These Vietnamese egg rolls are perfect as appetizers or as an entree. We like to keep a dozen or so in our freezer ready to serve company or to bring to a party. We also serve them with our favorite Chinese take-out and they are especially good when we have homemade stir-fry. When you taste them, you will surely agree that these are indeed the most Unbelievable Egg Rolls you have ever tasted!
Mina Banjac is originally from Sarajevo, Bosnia, and she brings authentic Mediterranean and Eastern European desserts and pastries to the farmers market such as kiwi strawberry, sour cherry and pineapple, and raspberry chocolate cakes. Stop by her booth and try a sample of her baklava, Dulce de Leche, apricot strudel, honey cake, almond cookies or other delicious sweets she features each week.
Everything she makes is handmade, from scratch. European cakes are each a unique experience of their own. They are not too sweet, nor are they too heavy. Many of her recipes have been passed on to her from family members and she has some notebooks that are really old. Mina is always adjusting and experimenting with her recipes. After years of encouragement to sell her pastries, now you can try them for yourself at Florida’s friendliest farmer’s market.
Rosa Ferreira is from Brazil and Rosa’s Brazilian Treats is one of our newest vendors at the Market Place. Rosa loves to share her heritage and the wide range of treats she brings to the farmers market including confections and desserts, and a delicious, oh-so-moist pumpkin corn cake.
Along with her son, Kyle, they recently moved to Fernandina Beach to enjoy a slower pace and a friendly atmosphere… and you will, too, when you visit the Market Place.
The farmer’s market is located on N. 7th Street and open every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, rain or shine. The Market Place will NOT be open on Saturday, May 3, 2014, due to the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival.
