The Fernandina Beach Arts Market is returning on January 26, 2019. Located adjacent to the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market on North Seventh Street, the Arts Market features a nice variety of artists and craftsmen specializing in jewelry, paintings, woodworking, iron work, hand sewn apparel and more. Featured this week is Dock Pieces, a furniture company working with the popular artist Julie Delfs. These table and chair sets, bars, and side tables are a unique combination of skilled craftsmanship and conversational art.
The farmers market offers about 40 booths of producer or grower vendors. You’ll find local honey, seasonal produce, and fresh baked breads like Rudy’s Bakery and Great Harvest Bread Company. Great Harvest uses fresh milled wheat and honey to sweeten their breads, muffins, and other baked goodies. Look for their cinnamon swirl sweet rolls, apple spice muffins, and their very popular morning glory. The also have fresh honey whole wheat bread, spinach feta bread, Dakota bread, and sourdough bread. Their pepperoni rolls are as gargantuan as their savory biscuits are delicious. Their newest bread is a Sheryl bread, and it is sweetened with molasses instead of honey. Samples are available.
You’ll also find goat milk soaps, locally caught shrimp, and ethnic specialties. African Love Kitchen makes an East African meat or vegetable patty wrapped in a flour pastry dough called sambusa, a Swahili word meaning filled pastry or meat pie. These sambusas are available stuffed with beef, bison, chicken, lamb, or vegetables. Another unique item you will find at the farmers market is Camp Craft Cocktails. These ladies blend herbs, dried fruits or vegetables, and spices to make flavorful cocktails like hibiscus ginger lemon, hot toddy, pineapple jalapeno margarita, bloody Mary, sangria, and aromatic citrus; you simply add your alcohol beverage of choice. Their booth is on the west side of the street and you are encouraged to open a jar and smell these amazing flavors.
This week’s musician is Alain Lelait. Go ahead and mark your calendar for February 14 – 16th; our Booth with a Cause is the Amelia Island Book Festival. This is their 18th annual event. Stop by their booth to learn more about the workshops, authors, and other activities.
Both markets will be open in historic Fernandina Beach on Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine. If you’d like to bring your pets, feel free, but they must be well-behaved and on a leash. Fresh, clean water is always available for free for your pets. As a courtesy to others, please be prepared to pick up their waste, and don’t let them urinate on the vendor’s tablecloths.
For more information, please stop by the management booth and ask for Judie or Lawrence.
