Each week at the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers’ market brings something new to find, and each booth has something different from their neighbors. Your local farmers’ market is a cornucopia of fresh, seasonal produce as well as a variety of cheese, meats, seafood, spreads, dips, breads, sauces, flowers and more.
Finding and trying a new vegetable that you have never seen before is a personal experiment in your culinary palate. Have you tried a Pattypan Squash or a Kohlrabi? How about a Zucchini Cobbler or chips made from eggplant or kale? Well, you don’t have to go far to try something new, simply ask any vendor in the farmers market, “What is the most unusual thing you sell and how do you cook it?”
Coming to the Market Place on August 2, 2014 is Olive My Pickle, a small family adventure who started with the market in Fernandina Beach back in 2010. With a Non-GMO Project Verification status, owners Shai and Charlotte are thrilled to have earned Vegan Action Certifications and the Fresh From Florida logos, too. “Our affiliations with these organizations say more about us than we could ever write on the side of a pickle jar.” Charlotte said. Specializing in brine fermented pickles, you will find a variety of olives, flavorful hummus, and tasty stuffed grape leaves among their Vegan deli customer favorites.
Another customer favorite at the farmers market in Fernandina Beach is Amelia Pasta. Their unique, hand crafted pasta flavors are made with real vegetables and hand milled spices. There is no cholesterol, no artificial ingredients and no fillers. This pasta is all natural and absolutely delicious – especially without sauce!
But, if you prefer a nice sauce on your pasta, pair Amelia Pasta with Joy of Garlic’s flavorful pasta sauces and marinara. The plain Marinara is made with whole peeled tomatoes, roasted garlic, fresh basil and sun dried tomatoes, their Puttanesca sauce also includes green and black olives and capers. The Vodka Sauce is made with heavy cream and vodka, and the Fra-Diavolo pasta sauce has a delightful kick with crushed red peppers.
Join these and a couple dozen other vendors this Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, rain or shine. Joel Vendetti will be strumming the classics and be sure to check out the fish being weighed-in at the 32nd Annual Fernandina Beach Fishing Rodeo while you are visiting the downtown farmers market. We are located on N. 7th Street, between Centre and Alachua Streets on Amelia Island, Florida. There is something for your entire family, including your well-behaved, leashed pets!
