Dog Days of Summer at Farmers Market

Share

August 26, 2017, is the last Saturday in August and both the Fernandina Beach Arts Market and the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine. Though we are still in the midst of those “dog days of summer”, the downtown Fernandina Beach markets are a great way to enjoy the outdoors before the hottest part of the day sets in.

Speaking of dogs, Bark-N-Bake is returning to the farmers market this Saturday for the first time since the birth of their daughter. Bark-N-Bake sells amazing dog treats that look good enough for humans to eat, and from time to time an unsuspecting shopper has taken a bite as they graze their way through the Market Place. Hand-crafted dog treats are available in a variety of types and flavors including jerky, peanut butter, sweet potato straws, and a calming lavender cookie to help settle Fido down during those notorious Florida sun showers and thunderstorms.

Another amazing vendor specializing in pet approved products is A Natural Springs Dairy. Farm fresh milk, eggs, yogurt, butter, and a variety of cheeses are brought to the market each Saturday from this popular Florida farm. If you really want to spoil your pet, stop by and see Steve at JD Beef. He carries beef and pork products sure to please the most discerning palates, canine or human.

The Arts Market will host about 20 vendors on Saturday adjacent to the farmers market, located on North Seventh Street, who bring their fine jewelry, wood crafts, furniture, novelty items, glassware, pottery, quilts, paintings and more.

Music this week will be provided by local musician Alain Lelait, and our Booth With a Cause will be the Amelia Community Theatre.

While we truly welcome your well behaved, leashed pets, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind owners to be considerate of trip hazards created by the length of your dog’s leash, as well as practicing good “curbing” habits. For your dog’s safety, please make sure they are up to date on all vaccinations as recommended by your veterinarian. Also, doggy drop bags are always available at the management booth located at the top of Seventh Street, near Centre Street.

We hope to see you, and your best friends, this Saturday in historic Fernandina Beach.
