Summer is officially here and many Florida farmers markets close for the season due to the heat, the afternoon thunderstorms, and the suffocating humidity, but here on Amelia Island, where we have the sea breeze to help keep the high temperatures, humidity and storms at bay, we are open every Saturday of the year, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. – generally well before those pesky afternoon showers hit the coast. Year ’round you can get your fix on fresh, organic, and gourmet products at the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market.
This Saturday you will find fresh produce, honey, breads, pastries, meats, seafood, dog treats, dips, sauces, lemonade, landscaping and potted plants, and much more. Chef Jonathan of Sunshine Grindz specializes in Hawaiian poke, and his wasabi tuna flavor tastes like a bite of sushi roll without the rice. The community support of his booth has been amazing and for that he says, “Mahalo!” Ms. Cook, the Muffin Lady, will return this week with her homemade, old fashioned chocolate chip and blueberry muffins, and Amelia Pasta will be on-site with their gourmet flavors of rotini, fettuccini, and linguine.
The 4th Saturday of the month also means the Fernandina Beach Arts Market will be open. It is located adjacent to the farmers market and showcases about two dozen artists and craftsmen. Bill and Christina Tomlinson are returning to the Arts Market with their gem stones set into fabulous jewelry. Stop by their booth and see how Bill turns rocks into amazing jewels. Also on hand this week is Black Frog Designs. They can make a beautiful, customized canvas wall hanging from your pictures, or select one of their unique designs. These are reasonable priced and make wonderful gifts. Looking for a handmade handbag or tote? Jessjuan Handbags and Suly Sewing and Design have beautifully crafted, one-of-a-kind purses on display. There will also be fine jewelry, watercolors, acrylics, woodwork, glassware, and other crafts on display.
Music will be provided by Alain Lelait, and FSCJ’s massage students will be at the market practicing their skills. Our Booth With a Cause will be Florida Psychological Associates. They will have be talking about our services and have pamphlets on hand. Screenings will be available should anyone like to see their current mental health risk level by answering a few questions on a tablet. Florida Psychological Associates, located in Fernandina Beach, wants to raise awareness for mental health in our community and show how important mental health is to everyone.
Both markets are open, rain or shine.
