YOU Make our Market Special

The Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market will be open on Saturday, March 2, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine. There will be a wide variety of seasonal vegetables and produce, fresh baked breads and pastries, landscape, patio, and hanging plants, jams, jellies, sauces, spreads, meat, shrimp, salmon, dog treats, honey, and so much more. Nearly 40 booths of growers and producers will be on hand to answer your questions about how to prepare real food. We invite you to meet the farmers, the bakers, and the ranchers who prepare your food.

Did you know buying at a farmers market reduces the transit time, packaging and fossil fuels required to bring your food to your local grocery store? Fresh foods are grown seasonally. This gives you and your family the opportunity to try new flavors that have not been gassed to simulate ripening or sitting in warehouses waiting on shipping. Buying directly from the farmers is as fresh as food gets. Many farmers market foods are prepared without steroids, antibiotics, genetic modification or pesticides. Many of the items are caught, baked, or harvested the day before the farmers market. Family farmers often lose when they try to compete with the larger agribusinesses that dominate the U.S. food market. Shopping at the farmers market helps support the smaller family farms, the shrimp boat owner that only sells wild caught shrimp, local bakeries, home bakeries, and other great items often prepared from recipes that are many generations old.

Strolling through the farmers market gives you the chance to learn where your food comes from. We hope you will join us Saturday morning with your reusable grocery bags and experience shopping in the fresh outdoors. You can be assured the meats and eggs you find at the market come from animals who have been treated with care. They graze on natural grasses and have been spared the cramped confinements of feedlots and cages. Chesser Seafood is on the sea several days each week catching the tasty white shrimp you love, as well as the Red Royals, that should stay in season until May.

Preparing your weekly meals should be a fun, family adventure, not the chore television commercials have led us to believe. Bring your clan and taste the samples, squeeze a peach, thump a plum, and have a good time. Fernandina Beach is one of the most amazing places to be… people pay thousands of dollars just to visit our town, but YOU live here. Saturday mornings on North Seventh Street are meant for families, friends, and fellowship, and this week we have an amazing musical artist performing, Laura Cramblet.

Cramblet, a singer/songwriter from the Ohio Valley, plays Americana music on the guitar and the hammered dulcimer. This recording artist’s songs and lyrics are both poignant and heart-felt; her voice is warm and soothing. She is most remembered as a member of Grass Menagerie, a popular band from the D.C. area. She was also a member of Kinfolk, Honeysuckle Rose and WV Grass. Currently, her music is streaming on Spotify, Jango, Google Chrome, YouTube, etc. Her next CD is scheduled to be released later this year.

This week’s farmers market sponsor is All American Gutter Protection. They offer the best micro mesh gutter guards and gutters at highly competitive pricing. Based on decades of research and industry experience, their gutter guards are backed by a lifetime performance guarantee and will give you clog free and leaf free gutters for the life of your home! The All American Gutter Protection team are experts in rainwater management and are committed to providing exemplary installations – backed by a Lifetime Performance guarantee.

In addition to our weekly vendors, returning this week are Steephill Vermont Syrup, Something Good’s gluten-free bakery items, Logan’s micro-greens, Amelia Naturals soothing balms, and chopped olive salad from Jay’s Marketplace.

If you’d like to perform, learn how to become a sponsor and showcase your products, have a free, non-profit booth like this week’s Take Stock in Children, or have a booth at the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market or the semi-monthly Arts Market, stop by the management booth and ask for Market Manager Judie Mackie. We hope to see you soon at what we like to call, Florida’s friendliest farmers market.
