Pumpkin is Prevelent at Farmers Market in Fernandina Beach

It is that time of the year when pumpkins are everywhere. You’ll see Jack-o-Lanterns, the local pumpkin patch, Halloween and Thanksgiving Day decorations and of course… pumpkin pie!

Some of the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market vendors consider “pumpkin” one of their specialties and you won’t go wrong with a delicious pumpkin pie from Me, Myself and Pies, or one of my fall favorites – the pumpkin pie bar from Great Harvest Bread Company.

Look for our produce vendors to carry a nice variety of pumpkins. You will find carving pumpkins for your Jack-o-Lanterns, the small pie pumpkins that are perfect for baking, and the pumpkins and gourds used mostly in decorating.

Steephill Designs is back from Vermont with their seasonal maple syrups. This time they have their Dark Robust Grade A (old grade B), maple creame and of course maple sugar! Great on ice cream, yogert, and muffins, it’s a one-of-a-kind as store bought is more like maple powder, but not theirs.

Also returning to the farmers market is a fairly new vendor, Miz Mac. Miz Mac began making Florida Cracker Candy in 1996 and their original recipe is still used today. These cookies resemble a soft toffee bar, but you really need to try them for yourself. Their slogan, “Giving Back is Always in Good Taste”, is displayed in their business as a portion of their proceeds are donated to charities that help women, children, animals and the elderly.

Music this week will be provided by Jim Barcaro.
