Even though the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market is only open from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday mornings, your farmers’ market vendors wake up really, really early to bring you fresh baked breads, grass fed beef, wild caught fish, pork from happy pigs, seasonal produce, unique plants, hand crafted soaps, organic dog treats, heirloom jams and jellies, and so much more, each and every week. Vendors load up their tents, tables, chairs and products into their vehicles and some of them drive as far as three hours to reach Amelia Island. Sure there are closer markets to their homes and farms, but there is something unique about the Market Place and that is our friendly Amelia Island community.
Talk about coming a long distance to reach our farmers’ market, Doug’s Wild Alaskan Salmon returns to Fernandina Beach! The Resetarits family has been fishing Alaskan waters over 30 years. Three generations of Alaskan fisherman bring the highest quality, flash-frozen wild salmon to Amelia Island once a month, and they will be here on November 16, 2013.
Olive My Pickle returns every other Saturday with their stuffed olives, muffulata mix, sour pickles, KimChi, sauerkraut, stuffed grape leaves, and a variety of hummus flavors. Shai and Charlotte try to keep their revenue dollars in NE Florida and access the local supply chain first; when they purchase outside of the area the buy from independently owned businesses. In 2014, they will begin curing and selling Florida grown olives.
Along with nearly 40 vendors of true farmers’ market products, we invite a non-profit, a brick and mortar business and a local musician to join us each week for FREE! November 16th brings Community Hospice, and Larry Lemeir will entertain us with his selection of classic soft rock tunes.
This week’s business highlight is aimed at Kayak Amelia and their yoga class offered on a stand up paddle (SUP)board. Imagine a Yoga Mat amidst the natural, serene beauty of Amelia Island. You hear birds chirping while relaxing in down-dog as white puffy clouds flow naturally through the class. Deb Cunningham and CJ from Kayak Amelia will be offering an “on-land” demo of this wildly popular trend with a board that simulates being on water! Come give it a try!
Please join us on N. 7th Street, in historic downtown Fernandina, this and every Saturday. For more information find us on facebook, or call (904) 557-8229.
