New Year – New Products at the Farmers Market

Share

The Fernandina Beach Market Place is the hot spot on Amelia Island to find new delightful treats for 2017. Strolling through the farmers market on North Seventh Street you will notice several expanding product lines from our existing vendors for the new year.

The Amish Popcorn vendor has expanded and rebranded to become Country Popcorn and Country Pies. Made by “The Pie Mom” of Callahan, Florida, their new pie booth will be open on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month and include full sized fruit pies, and pie cups. Available in caramel apple, Amish oatmeal, blueberry, and peach, these delish pies are affordable and tasty. A whole pie too much? Check out their $3.00 pie cups, a perfect sweet treat.

If you haven’t caught on to Hawaiian poke, Man, Sunshine Grindz brings this Pacific island specialty to the farmers market every Saturday. These dishes are prepared and chilled, and there is enough to serve two, but once you taste it you may keep it all for yourself. Some of their customer’s favorites include sashimi grade Ahi Tuna Poke with onion, cucumber, garlic, ginger, and soy sesame. Local Shrimp Poke is soy poached shrimp, heirloom tomato, avocado, lime, cilantro, cucumber, and chili paste. The Snapper Ceviche is mixed with avocado, lime, calamanco, cilantro and red onion. One of my favorites is their seasoned edamame. Their name, Sunshine Grindz, comes from “sunshine” as in, Florida is the sunshine state, and in Hawaii, “grindz” means “food with friends”.

Another popular, weekly vendor, African Love Kitchen, is introducing us to new and exotic flavors. Her most popular item is Sambusa, an East African meat or vegetable patty. From week to week the varieties may vary, but they always have beef, chicken and vegetable Sambusa. For a step out of the ordinary, you must try the free range bison, lamb, or goat, when available. All of their curry stews are gluten-free, and some are vegan. Be sure to try their Piri Piri Sauce, too. Piri means “pepper”, so be warned, it’s got a little bite to it.

Olive My Pickle has expanded, too, for 2017, with the addition of fermented dill or spicy green beans served in 1/2 pound packages for $6.00. Stop by their booth and see their new booth set up and meet Trisha. She regularly works the booth, so most everyone knows her, but one thing you may not know is that when Trisha is not slinging pickles, hummus, and olives at the farmers market, she is Roller Derby Girl “Spankin’ Pickle” with the Jacksonville Roller Girls.

The Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market is open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., every Saturday. Located on North Seventh Street, between Alachua and Centre Streets, entertainment January 21st is by Spanish Guitarist Dennis Fermin.
