If you have been to the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market in the last year and a half, you’ve noticed how the market has changed, and how it has grown. One of the things that has not changed, however, are many of the wonderful vendors you have come to trust to feed your family over the past several years.
One of our most popular booths is organized by Tommy King and Jane Honn, who bring seasonal produce and specialty treats like relish, chow chow, salsa, pickles, and relish to the Market Place each and every Saturday. Grown on a family farm in Starke, Florida, Tommy King of King’s Kountry Produce may be best known in the region for his delicious strawberries, but with over 60 acres of growing space Tommy rotates his seasonal crops to produce tomatoes, collards, turnips, kale, Brussel sprouts, watermelon, cantaloupes, squash, cabbage, new red potatoes, peas, beans, zucchini, and the colorful trio of Romanesco, cheddar and traditional cauliflowers.
Located on Highway 301, they have a storefront, too, where Jane sells her homemade jams like black and blue, or strawberry and fig. She also makes pumpkin butter, apple chutney, dilly beans, pickled okra, pickled beets, salsa, honey, cane syrups, strawberry shortcakes and more.
Always green minded, they not only bring healthy produce to Amelia Island, but they also encourage you to recycle their glass canning jars, cardboard strawberry flats and those plastic pint berry cups by returning them to their booth during the farmers market each Saturday.
The Arts Market is located adjacent to the farmers market and will be open this Saturday from 9:00 to 1:00. Entertainment will be provided by local saxophone player Gabriel Arnold, and the Special Olympics will be our featured non-profit booth on March 22, 2014.
The Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market is located on N. 7th Street and is open from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm every Saturday of the year, except for the Saturday of the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival. Open rain or shine, we embrace the fresh air under the majestic oak trees draped in Spanish moss. We are family oriented and your well behaved, leashed pets are always welcomed.
