Closing in on Christmas 2016

Open every Saturday, in historic Fernandina Beach, many vendors of the Market Place farmers market have paired up to offer you convenient and fabulous gift giving ideas.

Soy candles, honey candles, and goat milk candles are easy to find from a variety of vendors within the market, and when you pair those with the goat soap lotions from Soap-crafters, you create a gift of relaxing, soothing, “me-time” for the busiest of friends on your shopping list.

Congaree and Penn, a company from Jacksonville that grows rice and grits, also sell Mayhaw jelly, which is delicious when paired with gluten free biscuits from Something Good, or a slice of toasted cinnamon bread from Maria’s Bakery.

Chesser Seafood’s local, wild caught shrimp is always a sell-out, but when you pair it with lemon, habanera, or garlic pasta, or those fresh Jacksonville grits, you’ve created a culinary delicacy from ingredients sourced locally.

A farmers market special this week is a ready-to-give stockings with a large jar of Joy of Garlic’s flavorful marinara sauce, and your choice of three bags from Amelia Pasta for just $30.00. Visit the Amelia Pasta Booth for details.

Denise, with Jay’s Marketplace, is returning this week with her popular chopped olive salad. If you don’t know what to do with this amazing stocking stuffer simply blend 4 ounces of cream cheese with 2 – 3 tablespoons of chopped olive salad for a great spread on those delicious crustinis from Bottega by Liz Grenamyer, or use as a dip with fresh farmers market vegetables like carrots, sliced squash, cauliflower or broccoli.

December 17th will be your last chance to order a savory or sweet pie from Me, Myself and Pies for Christmas Eve delivery at the farmers market. Among their many specialty pies, their holiday selections include savory pies such as quiche Lorraine, vegetable quiche, spinach and bacon quiche, or pork sage sausage quiche. Sweet pies include pecan, coconut cream, chocolate French silk, sweet potato (in traditional or deep dish), mixed berry crumb, or pumpkin pie with a white chocolate option.
