Fall is in full swing at the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers’ market and you can tell by the seasonal vegetables that show up this time of the year.
Cabbage Creek has salad mix, baby kale and baby arugula that they pick the day before the market, so you can’t get it much fresher than that!
Boatright Farms and Kings Kountry Produce are bringing pole, bush and lima beans. Carrots, eggplant, okra, corn and potatoes are still available. Look for some onions, peas, peppers, and of course, pumpkins this time of the year, too.
Along with nearly 30 vendors in the farmers market, we are introducing a new vendor, Costa Primera. They will be introducing their Costa Rican coffee from Llano Bonito, a cooperative that uses sustainable and organic farming and production methods. The Café Llano Bonito brand represents the true gourmet quality of the coffee grown in the Tarrazú region of Costa Rica. There are no machines used during the harvesting process, so each coffee cherry can be harvested by the farmers’ own hands at the peak of ripeness. The beans are then wet-processed and sun-dried and only the top 10-20% are selected for our brand in order to ensure its premium, gourmet character. It has a good body, is very smooth on the palate, and offers subtle chocolate and citrus flavors. It is perfect for an everyday drink – from early mornings to after-dinner relaxation – and it makes excellent espressos and iced coffees. It will never be bitter and it can be stored for extended periods of time without losing its gourmet character.
Open every Saturday in historic, downtown Fernandina Beach, the Market Place is located on North Seventh Street and open from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, rain or shine.
Joining us this week is Mothers of American Military Fallen, they will be organizing Christmas Trees and packages to send to the troops overseas. Our musical entertainment will be provided by the talented and lovely Jennifer Burns.
